12:01 pm

now. >> thank you john and sandra get afternoon nine jim -- jillian turner in washington in from martha maccallum this is the story former president trump will take the microphone soon and battleground michigan and will discuss inflation, manufacturing, the economy. all of the top issues in this election according to brand-new fox polling from sun belt states. leading all issues buy at least 27 points. when the same voters were asked who they trust more on the economy. the former president trump leading vice president harris by eight points. harris though is narrowly leading trump overall in three of those four sun belt states. new pulling the race is too close to call with here is leading by one point in a head-to-head nationwide well within the margin of error. we have the shark tank star mr. wonderful kevin o'leary on tap but first aisha husni this afternoon in cartersville

12:02 pm

michigan awaiting and hearing from former president trump. what do you expect aisha? >> good afternoon to you jillian i think those marks have been delayed a bit now we expect him at the top of the hour, bora clock. i can tell you the economy not just the issue in sun belt states also the issue here in battleground michigan where i've been talking to voters who are super stressed out over not only energy prices but also the housing crisis. they have a lot of complaints and say somebody needs to come in and fix it. they think the former president trump at least supporters behind me say it is him back and do it. listen to this... >> top of mind i think for michigan is the direction of the economy especially the fuel prices, inflation. sea more americans you see a lot of them on the streets. you don't see a lot of them get the help they need but you see people come in from other countries get the help right away. >> so that is a strategy right now in the rust belt. over in the sun belt, fox news

12:03 pm

polling shows harris now leads in arizona by a single point. in georgia and nevada by two points but while trump has a one point edge in crucial critical north carolina. all of it of course julian within -- jillian within the margin of era -- area. trump was beating president biden buy at least five points in all of these states before he dropped out. our polling also shows harris as improved upon his numbers when it comes to women and black voters and young voters. top campaign out with the brand-new ad going after those black women and female voters featuring more than a dozen black women in fact some from battleground states all going on the record and denouncing harrah's. but again, economy, economy, economy. you don't hear it enough. you actually hear it a lot here on the trail when you actually talk to voters face-to-face. that's all they want to talk but jillian. >> yes, we will talk about that all our lawn here at the story thank you aisha. let's bring in kevin o'leary the

12:04 pm

chairman of o'leary in venture -- ventures and shark tank star and investor. kevin you are the perfect guide to have on this topic. i've been reading up on what you've said over the last couple weeks about the proposal out of the harris campaign. let's start with one of her top economic issues which is her proposed curves to price gouging. you say its been tried as a policy and other countries and has failed, you know, every single time down the line. there is no real way to get it implemented here in the united states right? >> no there isn't. this is soviet style price control with -- which leads to inflation and supplies shortages. very big problems in terms of competition in the market because you don't get competitors coming in when the government decides praising. she was basing that off of the idea of gouging under state laws like texas if there is a flood. a short period where they go after people who raise prices but you can't do it nationally and nobody wants it.

12:05 pm

are these very populist idea and impossible to infinite would never pass congress. she seems to be throwing a lot of stuff at the wall. i understand why she's doing it she's being encouraged by what she sees in the polling. but a lot of these proposals have not been scrutinized by you, the reporters, one-on-one interview to actually understand how they'd be implemented. this is an incredibly bad idea it doesn't work in venezuela or north korea. are anywhere. it's just not american. everyone knows that. i am wondering how long she gets away -- i'm not saying she doesn't understand her strategy but throwing this stuff up the wall and not being accountable for it is not how to run a campaign i don't think. i don't think swing state voters smelling and they won't like it. that could hurt her. >> soy want to ask you about housing. one of her other big proposals you say her idea to build jillian: 3 million new homes in the u.s. is just a nonstarter likewise it subsidizing lower

12:06 pm

income first-time home buyers 25,000 bucks is only going to cause inflation. to unwrap -- unravel that for us? >> i'm in the real estate market and i'm an investor, many are. it's a state mandate. when you want to build a house you got to get a permit. i don't know what state is going to give a permit for 3 million homes. that's never going to happen secondly the reason there is been so much inflation and housing its not just the market its the regulatory environment. california is a good example. half the cost of a house 40 or 50% is the cost of the regulatory hurdle to get it in the first place. that has to be changed. this idea of giving free money from a helicopter in an inflated market that's tight where there is no supply. the reason there is no supply is how the mortgage is still out there in the next few years ours -- are under four% per if you own one you will never sell your house. >> i'm one of those people. >> while you're not going to cell your house. there is a reason you don't to pay seven% mortgage you

12:07 pm

are not dumb. that's why there is idea that yg to give $25,000 tax-free dollars to people. one house on your street for sale let's say and all of a sudden you give nine buyers 25,000 more dollars each. all of it goes to the seller they'll just raise the price tony $5000. this idea is beyond insane. it is the worst policy i've ever heard. everybody in real estate knows it's a nonstarter. that's the second idea i know would never get through congress how many ways can you think to print money. that's why you have inflation you got to stop. remember this is the same person and she's going to have to take scrutiny on these questions and signed the bill that we didn't need. that inflation reduction act it ended up being inflationary. at some point you have to answer so i'm looking forward to this thing tonight it's not live. i've never seen in history a presidential candidate avoid the press. that will end in the next 68 days and then we'll find out

12:08 pm

where she stands. it's been working for her but you've got to face the light eventually. >> jillian: got to face the music. kevin let's talk about her tax policy "the wall street journal" has done their analysis is what they report back. they say ultimately big picture here is that under her plan taxes we'll go up for high income households across the board. most americans taxes would remain unchanged are possibly lower. and a whole lot of lower income parents would get some new brakes. does not match year read on it and what do you think? >> i'm worried about something far more sinister. the idea to raise capital gains tax to make america uncompetitive. you got to thank about capital. where the number 1 economy on earth. most foreign capital wants to invest in america because it's competitive. but when all of a sudden your looking at the g20 all countries your sovereign while they want about $100 billion to work in

12:09 pm

infrastructure. you care about capital gains tax into care about the corporate tax rate. remember 82% of jobs in america are created by private companies that are corporations. that's who americo works with and for and how we pay for our society. why do you want to punish them for success week so at the end of the day when you make yourself so uncompetitive in the plethora of economies that compete with us and all of a sudden say corporate tax rates of the highest now we are in the bottom quartile of competition, it will be like what happened when we had 28% plus corporate taxes when companies started to go to ireland. we have already tried this it doesn't work. i want to hear her answer that question. out really want to hear how she feels about the number 1 economy. remember she is the steward of the number 1 economy on earth. this is a really, really, really bad idea. incredibly bad policy. >> jillian: kevin i've only got a couple seconds left but

12:10 pm

can you lay out her average american voters who may not be, you know, may not have a hole out of the investments are be earning over 1 million a year the folks will get hit hardest with the new harris plan which they should care about the capital gains tax. >> because 62% of jobs in america are where they were. companies between five and 500 employees. you want to do everything in your tax plan to support american entrepreneurship. that's what made this economy over 200 years ago and what keeps it the number 1 destination for capital around the world. we do not want to punish american entrepreneurs. the number 1 export of america is not a product are service its the american dream. that's the number 1 export. don't mess with the american dream. there is a reason people go through barbed wired to try to get in here. we don't do set a policy of weather try to get out of america. that's what i see and i don't

12:11 pm

like it. >> jillian: kevin you're pretty persuasive you should may be try out for her to be sure something. but thanks. >> i just tell the truth. i just tell the truth, your honor, that's it. >> thank you for taking time with as we appreciate you as always. >> take care. >> jillian: look at this. hype over whether president trump is going to be muted when he faces off with kamala harris for the first presidential debate september tenth it's reached -- reached a fever pitch in washington pair breaking new details coming up plus our political panel standing by to debate it. stick with us. >> we need sewn on the stage and it has the ability to go toe-to-toe with donald trump and someone who has the ability to rebuild the obama coalition and bring the party and the nation together i believe i'm that candidate.

for the trump campaign -- >> jillian: i feel like we have a bell when you say that. >> is important for people to remember how prosperous we were under trump. before covid-19 we have the best economy and probably for the u.s. economy. he has to contrast that with what's happened over the past three and a half years and the loss of income. i think it's been an economic catastrophe. two-thirds of americans agree they think the country is headed in the wrong direction. i think is exactly the wrong thing to do with capital gains. john f. kennedy had the capital gains tax rate and bill clinton cut the capital gains tax rate. ronald reagan did. >> jillian: up for the wealthiest americans right? >> no every time we've cut it we've seen an increase in capital tax skins revenues into big increase in investment which is what we want in this economy. there is no saying if you tack

something you get less of it. a few taksim people for your investments you will go up less investment and that's going to make all americans poor. >> where i agree with steve is this i think he is rated for talking about the first two years of the trump presidency the first three year of the trump presidency would likely win the election but i think the american people would remember the mismanagement of the last of the trump presidency. beyond that i think people also are living on the trump tax plan and understand this economy is part of the trump tax plan. i think when you talk to like my mom who is now retired registered nurse or former teachers like tim walz they say i don't know what capital gains tax means. even "the wall street journal" said if you look at tax plan kamala harris it would benefit working-class and teachers and going after this election which is why you see him moving towards her.
