back. that's all i could see his thousands of asses. [ applause ] and that stopped. we got it stopped quickly. they all left immediately and although the other day you can see them taking the spray paint with the gorgeous limestone. tigers and all of the different things. when you spray limestone you will see it in 100 years from now because it's a very poor stone. and they were burning the american flag. i want to get a past at, everybody tells me you burn an american flag you go to jail for one year. they say it's not in the constitution. they say it's unconstitutional, well make it constitutional. if you burn an american flag you go to jail for one year. that was terrible what happened at the convention in chicago. they were burning american flags

all over the place and the fake news doesn't want to show it. i will proudly stand with you in defense of law and order and we will afford great years in the white house. we will make our country very special again. i know your commitment and your character and conclusion and i know your courage and as president i saw it every year natural disaster, national emergency and just a few weeks ago we saw in the moments after and an evil assassin tried to take my life. that sucker was moving fast. thankfully i got down quickly. but it was quite a time. it was quite a thing. who would think? but that date a member of the pennsylvania air national guard was in the second drill watching as the bullets flew, when the shots rang out.

12:02 pm

and hit a great patriot corey. we now know corey by his first name. the pennsylvania guardsmen did not shy away. he did not run for cover. he ran toward the gunshots, took off his tie to use as attorney kit and cradled corey's head in his hands and it was a tough scene. corey died as you know. to other vehicle hit very badly and that doctors up there did a phenomenal job. they lived and they are doing okay. and although he tragically could not revive corey he wanted every guardsmen here would have done and it was a tough thing he did to be honest. it was a tough thing he did. tremendous courage. just the fact that he was holding, he really got hit. but he gave his all and he was

12:03 pm

very proud to do it. americans are blessed to have such extraordinary patriots as are all the people in this room. you put your service above yourself and when our country needs you, you always answer the call. i know that very much and other people here, that's the spirit of duty and loyalty that defines the men and women of the national guard and it's the spirit that will save our country. because her country needs saving. we will reclaim our sovereignty and we will rebuild our military and support our police. we will stop migrant crime which is at levels that nobody can even imagine. we will restore economy and get rid of inflation. we will protect their second amendment and lift up our cities and secure our rights and we will defend our freedoms like we have never defended our freedoms before. and we will fight for america.

12:04 pm

[ cheering and applause ] thank you. thank you very much. thank you very much. so just enclosing, you never let me down. you've always been there for me when we had emergencies, when we had the crisis. and i will always be there for you and i can promise you this, together we will make america great again. thank you, god bless you all. thank you very much. thank you. [ cheering and applause ] >> there you have it. former president trump and

12:05 pm

current gop candidate for the presidency once again wrapping up his remarks. he was speaking with the national guard association in detroit. hitting three big themes consistently, crime, the economy and immigration as the campaign kicks off once again to high gear following the democratic convention in chicago and meanwhile right now over and butler pennsylvania alive look at lawmakers investigating this sight for the former president was shot just six weeks ago. the bipartisan congressional commission is leading to the shooter getting a clear shot from the rooftop and we will hear from them at the microphones just moments away because there are still so many questions about how that was allowed to happen in butler pa. correspondent cindy cotten is live reporting this afternoon. >> members of the congressional

12:06 pm

task force are wrapping up their sight visit right now as we speak but our drone was able to capture what these lawmakers were doing here on the ground. at least four members of congress who are here today have been there before and it'll be interesting to see what the second trip reveals for them. you can see right now members of the task force getting on top of the roof used by would-be assassins -- assassins thomas crookes and also view the area were former president donald trump stood on stage. task force ranking member and democratic congressman jason rowe says these visuals will help when the group starts conducting interviews. he says so far they've not been stonewalled getting documents from the fbi. other lawmakers involved in separate probes say the opposite. this comes as the sentiment continues to grow, that it took far too long for the secret service to take action following the shooting. >> the fact it took six weeks to place people on administrative

12:07 pm

leave following such a traumatic incident, there isn't a police department or a law enforcement agency in the united states that would not have immediately removed everyone off duty, sent them home and started interviewing everyone that was there. >> and again we are waiting on the news conference from lawmakers who are here on the ground today. congressman jason crowe says the task force plans to produce a report of its findings by december but he told fox today that the group is also weighing whether it should push out interim reports and based on what i'm hearing here on the ground and also from people across the country who are watching our coverage, there is an urgency and a desire for transparency much sooner. martha back to you. >> martha: thank you very much. it's hard to believe it was just six weeks ago. you see the live shot in butler pennsylvania is that bipartisan commission is looking at the scene there. we have to learn the mistakes

12:08 pm

that were made there so we don't have this situation again for a president or any presidential candidate. with that we bring former fbi special agent and fox news contributor nicole parker. good to have you with us today. it's good to see that they are pursuing this because we don't ever want to see the mistakes that are made there happen again as i said. i just want to show this from the hearing that happened on july 30th in congress where the acting director of secret service ronald rowe was questioned and so many of these questions are still hanging out there. watch this. >> how was he able to get an ar 15 onto the roof? >> the person who decided who made the decision to send donald trump onto stage know when you had a security situation has that person been relieved of duty? >> what was adequate for the shooters but not for the secret service. could you explain that? >> how did that sight survey get

12:09 pm

approved when it was so clear that that was a major threat from that building? >> martha: these are overly good questions we don't have the answer to at this point nicole. what is taking so long and is it reasonable that we still don't have the answers to those questions? >> as a former fbi agent i understand it takes time to conduct investigations but this is different. a former president was almost killed and we have a dead civilian into others that are injured. my recommendation would be the secret service and the fbi conducting investigations should be given a weekly briefing to americans. this will not go away, you cannot shove this under the rug and the fbi hides under the guise is an ongoing federal investigation and we can't make common but this is a very unique situation and people want accountability. they want transparency and they want consequences. and so far, you know, recently it was friday of last week that

12:10 pm

it was announced that, you know, individuals are finally suspended from the secret service and on administrative leave. professional responsibility opr is conducting internal investigations of those involved but it's been six weeks and people want answers and frankly americans deserve answers and in a lot quicker manner than what we are seeing right now. >> martha: seems the suspension should have happened right away. even could have been presented as we don't want to cast aspersions or guilt upon these individuals but obviously we need to suspend them because they wear on that detail today and as we complete the investigation if we can exonerate them if they will or they will be removed from their positions i think would've been a very reasonable response that people would've appreciated because they believe action was taken right away. one of the things that continue to really bother me and i know it bothers you as well is why they didn't have communication with officials who they put in charge of that area which was a

12:11 pm

clear shot to the stage. i want to remind everybody nicole and i'm sure you remember, this is ronald rowe speaking about why they didn't have columns with the other people they were working with locally. watch. >> technically you could do it but it would take a long time to get done and for one day or an eight hour operation, it requires a lot. and it would be months of planning of knowing that we are going to go to that to this particular jurisdiction and we will need your frequencies, in the keys and load you into our radios and you will need be needed to loading and two hours. >> martha: according to the butler county technic -- tactical command that is not true. they say whenever they are coordinating with outside security that they allow them to use their frequencies and radio so they can talk to them and they said in fact reporting to cnn i believe that they had radios that were ready for the

12:12 pm

secret service to pick up but they never came to get them. what do you say about that? >> that is gross negligence. i've been doing operations local law enforcement and that's why you partner with federal and local because it's hard to keep it sometimes. i did have to review the technological platform across nationwide but when you're teamed up with the local law enforcement officer that is why because then you have the radio and the frequency and you hear all communications. for secret service did not pick them up that to me is a sloppy and i hate to say this but there are agents from the ground level all the way up to the top of the management that looking at the federal government and say i can coast by and sometimes people get sloppy but nobody gets that -- fired from the federal government there's really no consequence. this is a wake-up call. if you're not doing your job with precision you should be fired. and let's see what happens after this investigation is completed. >> martha: they are so lucky he survived this. if they didn't have the time to go pick up the radio they

12:13 pm

would've heard instantly that there was somebody on that roof and they could've prevented him getting on stage. we know the timeline looks like. the other thing on my mind as thomas -- thomas crooks and his motivation and who we was communicating within these encrypted channels. immediately almost 24 hours later they said no connection to any iranian plot or anything else which was the earliest assessment that we got and it always seemed curious to me they ruled that out so immediately, and maybe true but to relate out immediately seems a little odd to me. now we hearing that the crooks family is lawyering up with some of the most well-known attorneys in pittsburgh. do you think they have anything to hide? >> i don't want to accuse anyone of hiding anything but for anyone to come forward shortly after the connection to anyone are no co-conspirators. how do you know? you can't even access the phone or the devices. you can't go out to say that there are profiles from the behavioral analysis unit at the fbi.

12:14 pm

it takes a long time for going through the information and for them to come out so quickly to say iran wasn't involved, whether they were or they were not until there is a thorough investigation they shouldn't be making any statements but at the same time americans do want transparency. you want to be transparent and give information as soon as it is available but again don't discount something or count something out until you actually completed your investigation. >> martha: it seems so odd that's the only thing they eliminated right away. everything else, you know, we don't know the investigation is ongoing but literally within 24 hours they said we know there wasn't anyone else involved. absolutely he was a lone gunman in the no questions about this. it seems so strange that they could speak so forcefully on that and say literally not much else over the course of six weeks. we watching these members of congress had to the microphones with some of what they discovered today so control room let me know when they are about

12:15 pm

ready to speak. so let's listen in now. thank you nicole, standby if he would. >> sure. >> we started weeks ago in washington dc and we had staff members working right now. now if you're running for reelection they have a little thing called the primaries in some cases in the fact that it's another election coming up. we are busy in our home districts from different parts of the country, different time zones is difficult for us other than conference zones. jason and i were together in normandy and he chose to jump out of an airplane and i chose to wish them luck as he did that but we are on this mission now. >> that's the smarter decision. >> i don't know about that but if you look at us and have a conversation is not one person on this conference that's identifying just as a republican or a democrat. we are identifying as members of congress on a task force with the task to restore the faith and trust and confidence the american people have to have in our system.

12:16 pm

with that being said, jason crowe who is cochairing this with me please. >> good afternoon. i'm jason crowe from colorado. i want to start by thinking chairman mike kelly by welcoming us to his home district and for setting a great tone and a bipartisanship on this task force. i want to thank the people of butler for welcoming us to their community. i notice a lot of attention and scrutiny on this community since july 13th but they have been very gracious and welcoming during our visit here. i want to thank the pennsylvania state police and the sheriff's department for also hosting us and welcoming us in showing us around as well. something that doesn't happen very often happened in the house of representatives last month, when we took the vote to establish this task force. and that is that every single voting member of the house of representatives that day, all 416 members, voted to create this task force and to empower this group to answer really

12:17 pm

important questions for the american people. and i think that sends a strong message that you don't have to be a democrat or a republican or an unaffiliated just say that there is no room for political violence in america. we have debates, we will have tough debates and we are in the midst of an election cycle right now. and all of us will have the tough debates. but in the united states of america you don't get to attempt to assassinate our elected officials and our candidates. it's unacceptable and we're standing here in a bipartisan way to send a message that we won't tolerate it. the american people have a lot of questions, we have a lot of questions. what we do and what we hope to do here today is to help restore confidence in the american people, that their elected officials and candidates are secure. and we know there's a lot of american sitting at home that don't have that confidence. that is our work and we will take it very seriously. we have a limited amount of time

12:18 pm

between now and december 13th. we will conduct a full thorough and robust investigation that'll be done in a bipartisan way. >> very good. thank you. to the members are with me today, some have been here before and some have not. for someone to reckon eyes as miss laura lee from florida. >> thank you chairman. laura lee from florida and they get to the people from butler for having us here today. it is so important that this task force was having the opportunity to do what we do here, to walk these grounds and deceit is area and to get an understanding of the physical space and where this security shortcoming took place. i will tell you for many of us, and raises more questions than we came here with today because we can see it is not a large place. we can get a sense of the area and just how close these buildings were to that place where president trump stood that day. for all of us having the opportunity to see and to walk around and experience this was a really critical step in our

12:19 pm

investigative process. we go from here to have the opportunity to speak to many of the men and women from law enforcement who were here on that day and have information and facts that they can give to all of us. we have been working since that day this task force was formed. we are working on getting answers from the american people. the members of this task force are not just bipartisan. we come from all around america and bring a background to this process that will help us get the answers the american people deserve. we are former military officers, intelligence officers, prosecutors and judges. and between us we understand how to conduct an investigation we are committed, all of us to ensuring that we understand what happened on this day and that the secret service and the law enforcement partners are providing that transparency so we can ensure that any protect he both of our presidential candidates in any protect he on the trail is kept safe. thank you.

12:20 pm

>> i also want to thank the chairman in the ranking member for putting this great team together. congressman from orange county california i want to say this is about democracy and about american democracy. we have a campaign and elections for president and for other elected offices throughout the country. we want our candidates to speak their minds, to make their opinions and their thoughts known to the american public into the voters. we don't want them to be afraid to speak their minds. we want to make sure we get to the bottom of this and make sure it does not repeat itself again. that our candidates are safe so that our democracy is safe. thank you very much. >> thank you. representative david joyce from ohio. >> thank you chairman kelly and member crowe and all of my colleagues here.

12:21 pm

look forward to working with all of them using their background and their expertise to establish the facts so that we can make judgements based upon those facts and delivered to the american people the answers they deserve. thank you. >> congresswoman from pennsylvania. >> thank you again to the chairman into the ranking member. i come from the other side of pennsylvania, from the philadelphia area. and where i serve and represent is roughly speaking 40 percent dam, 40 percent republican and 20 percent independent. my community looks a lot like the commonwealth and the country. in my community wants to make sure that we can work together and that we can get the answers we deserve because there is no time where political violence is acceptable and it certainly is not acceptable that anybody who is a candidate or seeking elected office should be vulnerable in this way and the people gathered to hear them and

12:22 pm

their opinions should be vulnerable in this way as well. by my background i'm a military officer and air force and i'm also an engineer and i spent most of my life in operations. what i want is to see the procedures and protocols to make sure we understand that and specifically also focusing on some new technology such as the drone that was involved in this particular situation. i very much look forward to continue to work with my colleagues, many of whom are my dear friends and all are my friends. a look forward to serving the american people this way. >> glenn iv from maryland. >> thank you congressman. i'm a congressman who represents part of maryland, former federal prosecutor had a chance to do these investigations when i worked as a staff in the senate and in the house. but i want to say that i really appreciate the bipartisan nature and approach we've taken so far

12:23 pm

with this task force. as congressman crowe stated we had a vote and i thought it was the right way to get started and i think it sent a right message to the american people that we weren't going to let politics get in the middle of this. we would work together to get this done in a very quick and expeditious way because it is so important as the congressman said before to make sure everybody understands where their candidates are voters alike that the democratic process will not be undermined by violence and we want to make sure we protect all candidates because we had someone who came to the rally who died that day as well so we want to make sure they're protected as well. i want to thank my colleagues for the outstanding job would been doing so far and the bipartisan approach we've taken so far. thank you. >> madeleine dean from pennsylvania. >> thank you. i represent suburban philadelphia, montgomery and berks county the fourth congressional district. it's an honor to be serving with

12:24 pm

this task force. we are charged with a very clear mission, to get to the truth and to get to the facts pack to find the gaps that report that out. and we have a very short timeframe to do it. you see here a number of people who are serious about this in a nonpartisan way so i'm honored to be a part of it and i want to thank chairman kelly for welcoming us here and making sure we got to see what we can see here because as you can see what's impressive to me is the proximity of everything here. particularly the position of the shooter and the position of the president. so glad to be here, i think the ranking member crowe. i got phone calls from both of you and they both had the exact same idea of what we were to do. to get to the truth and to say there's no place for political violence. not just for candidates but for those who want to be civic lee engaged. for those who came here excited to be a part of something bigger than themselves. they need to be freed from

12:25 pm

violence. happy to be here with you. >> jared moscow it's from florida. >> thank you ranking member and thank you mr chairman. and thank you for bringing us here today as democrats and republicans as members of the task force and as americans. being here and seeing the proximity and the buildings reminds me why the former director of the secret service did not come here. to make a sense of what it looked like. we are working in a bipartisan nature as a former director for the state of florida i look forward to getting the facts of what failed that day. we were inches away from an american catastrophe. and then figuring out what steps we could take to make sure something i this never happens again so thank you. >> so all the members of a chance to speak and the most important thing is it recognizes we are u.s. representatives, not democrats or republicans but

12:26 pm

both searching for the answers and making sure that we can work together and get the right answers. so this doesn't happen again. i think for jason and i, it was an easy thing to get on board with because we are more team members than quarterbacking things but i have to tell you, we are glad to be here. i would like all her colleagues with us it's fantastic to have you all here. the idea they can does this exact site is incredibly important. i will open it up for a few questions. we are on a busy schedule because we have a lot of stuff we are talking to and local law enforcement is looking for us and as quickly as we can you will take questions. >> just how stunned where you that i'm told zero obstacles to the stage. do you want to speak to that? >> only because i'm seeing this go on and i talked the members

12:27 pm

and members in that community in military service have done that in the majoring in distances and how could this have not been prevented? the burning question is going to be there is knowledge ahead of time with the person of suspicion on that roof and armed the key is to get the former president of the united states off the podium and there's nothing that has to take place. the two men who were wounded, the president and also not only did we lose mr comp a tour that day the crookes family lost their son. >> before congress i was an army ranger and had the fundamental principles and you a secure the high ground. i deftly took note there were a lot of lines of sight and that appear to be unsecured that have eyes on and certainly this point a lot more questions than

12:28 pm

answers. >> since you all communicated communicated with thus far and some other lawmakers involved in separate probes accused the fbi and secret service of stonewalling. and you say weather you will of experience that thus far? >> we asked for information and got partial information back. the whole effort for this task force is to make sure we get all the answers and go forward from there and the reports of five members of the secret service have been put on leave and the question comes up what do we know that we didn't react to. i just think at this point whether we first talked the important thing to get out there is not getting it out quickly and get it out accurately so that the american people say that makes sense. when you do it day after day after day of their opinion a thing that's what adds to the idea that they're hiding something and stonewalling.

12:29 pm

we've made request, the staff and dc are going through all of this and they're getting answers for us. we did have a phone conversation last week with the fbi and i think we are all longing for the time we can be together, question those people in the different committees. what is it that you're doing that day and what's following up on that? i think getting to the truth is a slow process and looking to get the right answer. everything they do is planned. it just doesn't happen. we've got really good people. >> thank you chairman our staff is in regular communications and we've seen to the members including the members just last week with the fbi and staff member briefing from the secret service as well.

12:30 pm

and the chairman sent one letter assuming jurisdiction from other committees and according to the legislation that was passed last month we are the sole task course of jurisdiction for this investigation we are proceeding that way and with respect the fbi and the expected general investigations at every agency conducts as a matter of course conducting reviews but this is the committee or this is the task force that the house of representatives has come for with subpoena power and the full investigative authority to conduct the review. >> miss lee, if you could comment also. >> i will add that we have heard from a number of federal agencies. from secret service that would be in and conduct with the fbi and had a briefing with the fbi

12:31 pm

and more than that we also have heard and have had an opportunity to interview many of the women and state and local law enforcement who are a critical part of the security procedure on that day. we also reached out to and continue to hear from the men and women who attended the rally. because their observations and what they saw and heard they recorded from their phones are all part of developing the full picture of what happened that day. it is very important also to note that because we are taking over the investigations that of course as soon as this happened immediately congress sprang to action and a number of committees within congress that touch the jurisdiction started their own investigations. we consolidated that to one place. with members of those committees on the task force. so as we go forward this is the committee that will have the ability to subpoena records. if we do feel if we get full and complete disclosure from any federal law enforcement agency we will be able to subpoena them

12:32 pm

to require them and to produce documents and witnesses. and if there is any moment where we feel we are not getting full and complete transparency that is what we will do. >> anybody else want to comment on it? go ahead. >> a surprising the approximate the billings today, let me talk about the intangibles of the benefits you see coming here beyond that and seeing all of this rather than, you know, relying on pictures and video and all of that. >> it's a different between day and night. when you're actually here on this service and you're watching on these grounds and you're going to the building and when you're actually up on the roof and you're actually looking at where do we have people position. if you can actually look at that right now in person and the rest of the pictures right away and the big thing for us being here today was to be on the ground and be familiar with the ground to be comfortable with the questions we were going to ask

12:33 pm

because of the way it was laid out and i think, jason if you want to weigh in on that? >> well said chairman. >> i was going to say that this is my second time i've been back and the first on the locals spoke to me today and a couple questions come up. first of all what is the buck stop and who is ultimately responsible for what happened here? and number 2 more importantly is who is in charge? i heard something today that the campaign had a lot to do with the planning of this. and so i want to know who makes ultimately the decisions. the secret service says to x. in the campaign says do not do that who decides? and than ultimately who is responsible for the outcome? and those are questions that we have to drill now to make sure it doesn't happen again. we have two co- candidates running for president right now

12:34 pm

in realtime. we have to make sure this does not happen again. thank you. >> how will the task for speedy determining with the gunman? are there plans for the task force to speak to the family, classmates, presumably the guy they let an hour away? >> we're not going to comment right now about specifically who we are going to talk to. we will talk about the entities and be in touch recently with the secret service and the fbi and local law enforcement but we are not going to say yet a specific individual. [ simultaneous talking ] >> said he had doubts of the secret service and the fbi acted alone. to the democrats on that committee do you share that concern? do you have doubts about the congressman who is on the task force not here today. >> appreciate the question. he is a fantastic member from

12:35 pm

florida. i think it is too early to make that determination and at this point nothing anyone at the task force has seen any hard evidence that suggested that would be the case. [ simultaneous talking ] >> thank you well. >> martha: just wrapping up this very interesting press conference from the bipartisan congressional commission that is seeking to get to the bottom of how this could have possibly happened, that of corporate -- person could have climbed on the field and climbed on top of the building and get into fairly easy shooting range of former president trump, the current gop nominee for the presidency. so this is a commission that was formed on august 4th. they have not been at this that long but it is interesting to see that determination on the part of democrats and republicans together, to figure out who should be held

12:36 pm

accountable. window five secret service members have been suspended from their duty at this point in this investigation and you heard that question astec the congressman. here's a little bit earlier on the roof. taking a look at it, to a person either nodded or said out loud that the proximity shock to them when they got up there. how easy it was. and they give the other vehicle -- video that we saw not that long ago that was surfaced taken by one of the men who was shot. where you can actually see thomas crooks moving into place in what looks so close to the stage. so it is still stunning and it's hardly that it was six weeks ago. feels like some much happened between then and now but this investigation is still fresh and you heard the congressman say that he understands that congress and michael waltz who is a former green beret has questions about why they so quickly said they were sure that

12:37 pm

thomas crooks who is beastly deceased acted alone. they never had an opportunity to question him obviously and they had very little access to his social media except to know that he had some encrypted accounts which as far as we know they haven't gotten into. we know there's an iranian plot against former president trump as well as others in his administration. robert o'brien and mike pompeo among them. there are often these kinds of plots against these officials so very interesting to watch this play out in butler pennsylvania where as you know the former president wants to have another rally before the end of this election. he want -- now speaks before plexiglass that is bulletproof when he does these outdoor rallies. that's the latest on that. in the meantime former president trump warning that world events in the middle east and europe could lead to a third world war if the right tips are not taken to prevent that. very high-stakes obviously.

he is calling once again for those responsible for the chaotic and deadly withdrawal from afghanistan to be fired from duty. this is earlier today and arlington virginia. he was invited by two of the families of the 13 u.s. service members who were killed in that suicide bombing, brutal horrific suicide bombing, that took the lives of over 100 afghan he's on the ground as well and 13 of her own servicemembers three years ago today. obviously this is a very difficult day for the families of these young servicemembers, next. >> to all the goldstar families our gratitude is everlasting and will be everlasting always. we will honor their memory by restoring a government that puts the american people, caused by kamala harris, joe biden, the humiliation afghanistan startedt

♪ >> martha: we will break in here. this is president trump in roseville michigan outside of detroit stopping off at one of his campaign offices. obviously these are good motivators for offices across especially in his battleground states. let's listen for a second. >> they wouldn't let him compete. if he competed as a democrat he would have one. i think they would've won the nomination and i'd rather run against these people anyway. it's just one of those things but we were in the neighborhood, talking to the national guard it was great. it was really fantastic and i said we've got to come over and see. if we could win this state we will win the hole thing. and we are going to win the hole

thing. we have a couple states that look pretty good and we have these great places that we did phenomenally in last year. we had a great race in 2016 but we did much better and 2020. millions and millions more votes but i will say they were both great but there's more enthusiasm now than there was then. wouldn't you say so? [ cheering and applause ] [ chanting ] >> trump! >> and really the differences we see how incompetent they are. we see what's going on and how just grossly incompetent the war with russia, ukraine never would've happened. the israeli attack would've never happened. he wouldn't have had inflation or the afghanistan horror show the president refuses to talk about. and we will do something that i

think will just be unbelievable. i told a very respected person in terms of leadership in europe he is from hungary and he said if trump were back it would be worse because they respected us. he used stronger language than that. i won't use it but he did use much stronger language than that. they respect us -- respected us and they will respect us again because right now we are a laughingstock all over the world and she is worse than biden. i think that kamala, i call her comrade kamala because she is a total marxist. her father is a marxist professor. he taught her well. and then she goes and she was flip-flopping all over the place. every single thing that she believed in two years ago or a year ago she now says i would love to go fracking. she's not going to for act. she's not going to do anything in the country is going to go down. the country will go down.

i just wanted to pay my respects. we love you all and we will be back. we are going to be back. [ cheering and applause ] and look we have john, we have everybody. and that was great. we all worked together on the last one and it was great. tulsi just endorsed me. [ cheering and applause ] tulsi just endorsed me in front of the national guard that made it permanent. you know when you're in front of the national guard she gives a great endorsem*nt actually. i have had a lot of respect for her for a long time. to a large extent, you were about common sense as well. john is about common sense. lisa is. [ cheering ] how good is she right? but this is an incredible group and we just appreciate it. again, if we win here. if we win here, automakers, the

automakers and the autoworkers, you can forget the auto industry if we don't win. will bring tremendous month supplants and we will bring them in because we do it with tariffs. it's so simple. they're building two of the largest plants in the world in mexico and china owns them and they think they are going to make cars and they're going to sell them into the united states and there's not going to be a price to pay. we're not going to let them do it. these plants are massive. a couple of them could take half of detroit. it's the real deal. a friend of mine, i said i want to go see a plant and see what it looks like. we will go to mexico and i said i want to see one here. he said the big ones are being built in mexico and they are owned by china to a large extent the two of them i'm talking about, can you believe it? twenty years ago they were not doing it because i said if you build a plant you have 150 percent tariff that you are putting in won't be able to send

the code. you can sell it but not selling it in here. they will destroy the auto industry totally and we are going to double it up. i bet you we will double it up within two and a half year period. and two and a half years at ob doubled up. so i just want to spread the word to this character that the head of the union, he is selling them down the tubes. i just saw a pool with 80 percent of the autoworkers and he endorsed sleepy jail. crooked goat -- joe, sleepy joe, doesn't matter anymore. someone said you shouldn't waste your time. he is the president right? they said don't waste your time with them it doesn't matter. can you believe it? we're going to have a great time when you look at their convention and look at what they were saying and what they weren't saying is worse. i will tell you we are going to make america greater than ever before. i appreciate your support. the woman with the beautiful eyes and she's crying. she's crying because sir you

wanted the last time and we did. he wanted the last time as well by the way. he may not want to but he wanted the last time and he doing great anyway. john is doing great. thank you all very much and we appreciate it. enjoy the pizza. thank you. we will come back. we will be back. we will be back a lot. thank you very much. >> martha: we will be back, we will be back a lot says former president trump. trump forced 47. these are sort of the campaign stops and i like listening into these for the candidates because it gives you the feel of the campaign trail and you see the passion of the people who are working on these races as these two candidates now are working to crisscross especially the battleground states and their vise presidential nominees will be doing the same. he says if we win michigan we will win the hole thing. obviously very important for

12:50 pm

both candidates to spend a lot of time in michigan. it has been a very busy day for the former president. earlier today he pay tribute to the 13 american service members who were killed in the suicide bombing at the airport during that chaotic and deadly exit from afghanistan which was three years ago today. some of their families invited former president trump to take part in arlington cemetery. there's a video that earlier today. the relatives of the fallen heroes also spoke as you may remember at the republican national convention last month and it was very moving. watch. >> joe biden set the withdrawal from afghanistan was an extraordinary success. look at our faces. look at our pain. and our heartbreak. and look at our rage. that was not an extraordinary success. >> in the nearly three years since hunter has been gone, in there has been silence.

12:51 pm

silence from the empty space at the dinner table. where hunter would have joined his brothers and sister and us for family gatherings. and there has been a deafening silence from that biden and harris administration. >> martha: had an opportunity to speak many of them when we were in milwaukee and their story is horrible. and the suffering that they've had didn't have to happen. what happened at the kabul airport. joined by a former white house deputy chief of staff -- staff and a former new york republican congressman who served in iraq and patrick murphy, former pennsylvania democratic congressman and iraq war veteran and former army secretary. it to have all of you with us. obviously it is important to recognize this day and to

12:52 pm

remember these lost servicemembers. it was a horrific situation. this is interesting to go back to. this is vice president harris being interviewed about this icn then. >> he made a really big decision. afghanistan. were you the last person in the room? >> yes. >> did you feel comfortable? >> i do. >> martha: she took responsibility for that decision and said that she really was in there room for all of these major foreign policy decisions. your thoughts on that and on the emphasis that trump is putting on it at this point? >> first of all, the pain and the grief that we saw in milwaukee was one of the most powerful parts of that entire convention. and our hearts go out to the families of the 13 dead. this was unnecessary. before the withdrawal from kabul, the last american combat

12:53 pm

death in afghanistan had been 17 months before. u.s. presence was a small footprint, principally at the airbase there at providing logistics support a mechanical support for the afghan air force , intelligence coordination training for the afghan forces and if need be they could have called in, you know, strikes from above to stop the taliban from advancing on any major city. i thought it was important that the former president trump talked about what a mistake it was to give up the base. that's essentially the american military presence was from search troops to cavil with the withdrawal of american allies and americans and our coalition partners from kabul as the taliban swarmed into take over the country. what a disaster for our country and what a signal to our adversaries that we lack the

12:54 pm

well to stay the course and do the thing that was necessary to preserve the peace and to give afghanistan a continuing chance to turn into a modern country. >> martha: it's important also patrick murphy because even then, i remember generals that we spoke to including the general that says watch out for what happens in ukraine. watch for what putin does next. watch for what xi jinping does next because this is a commander-in-chief that shows he's not necessarily strong enough to keep them at bay. that was said back then so i think that's why it's valuable to have a good discussion about this during this campaign right now and bring this up again. because the vice president could be the next commander-in-chief and she should answer questions about this. >> martha i agree with you and i think the most sacred duty of our government is to keep our families safe. that begins with our military and that's why today is such a solemn day. it's not just the 13 american

12:55 pm

heroes that we lost but the 2460 total we lost in afghanistan. the longest war in american history was afghanistan and became a forever war. there's only a certain point where military could do it. it was off to the afghan people and really taking hold of their country and the democracy and they could and for two decades. we brought bin laden to justice. and it was time to start bringing our troops home and that's what happened and that's what the deal president trump actually signed with the taliban 16 months prior and then let go of 5000 taliban prisoners. obviously we executed the withdrawal of over 120,000 airlifted out. and those 13 who were killed by the isis suicide bomber, it breaks all of our hearts and we

12:56 pm

should never ever forget them, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. >> martha: president trump has said he would handle the accident very differently although he was in favor of exiting. he says he would've left the military on the ground until the end and lifted them out in the end. you are take on this three years later and why it's important in this election season for voters? >> because we are -- gave up bagram air force base, a prison was released in afghanistan where they were able to join the fight. we saw not just 13 blue star families become goals for families at abbey gate, but we also had equipment that was left behind as well. it was so quick that afghanistan was locked out of the way that we withdraw from battle is critical and throughout this conflict we worked -- at time we were

improperly resourcing the fight to win and as a consequence we were losing soldiers throughout not just life but -- and treasure is also in choosing the next president remember that we are truly a commander-in-chief and whether it's iran, afghanistan, israel, gaza, north korea, russia, tanner cook we always adversaries and conflict and allies abroad we need to make sure that we are continuing more of the same which is the biden-harris agenda. that's not the foreign policy we should be electing. >> martha: thank you, all. i hope we get a discussion about this at least in one debate that hopefully more than that, is very important to the future of the country in the next commander-in-chief. gentleman, thank you very much. so as war escalates in the middle east and former president from knocking president biden for spending the week in delaware. this is after a week in california, no events on his official calendar, we are going to talk about there. ears response from from the white house.

watch... >> let me -- him on. the president is on vacation. you can never unplug from a job like that and nurdagi try to. he is very much -- and nor does he try to. he is very much in demand of making sure we can continue to protect our national security interests. >> martha: okay let's bring in -- former white house press secretary for president george w. bush and a fox news contributor. you've got, you know, these activity, connecticut activity going on between hezbollah and israel, there is a lot on the plate of the commander-in-chief right now he's not been an oval office in two weeks. is that okay? >> yeah, i really worry that everything involved in the president latest it has got to a black box of indifference. is almost as if american longer cares who he is, what he's doing what he's doing it because everyone is focused on that trump-harris race and you can't do that. apart -- white house press

corps needs to be more vigilant about this. where is our president? why is he always so often? remember he came back from europe and went back to camp david for a week for vacation to have diamond -- now is taking two weeks off? is a full-time job. >> martha: it seems that this period is particularly sensitive because you have a change of power about to happen and we look at what happened in europe and the man in the middle east after afghanistan and the chaos that happened there golf -- what about kamala harris? i mean, obviously she's in washington right now, but, you know, heading back out on a campaign trail later this week. so that i think make people feel uneasy. what she should be doing in the vacuum that we're seeing from the president? >> well it's very unclear what role she has in any decision-making in the white house, you know, other than supporting anything and everything joe biden has done which is why she settled with his policies. but as a candidate her

primary responsibility is frankly to be out on the campaign trail. i remember being george bush's?! terry in the 20 -- 2000 campaign when then sitting vice president al gore was our opponent and clinton was widening on the shop, goure was a candidate, same thing for harris today, that is what her job is to be on the campaign trail. >> martha: all right so we need to hear more from the president, clearly, in terms of these very pressing international situations. area, thank you very much. always great to see you. >> thank you, marc staal. >> martha: that is "the story" what is monday august 26th of april 24. we are getting very close to the end of this campaign just a couple of months ago. we'll be following it all that we will tell you -- see you back here tomorrow at 3:00 markstay doing for "your world globe which starts right now. have a great afternoon, everybody. >> ♪ ♪ >> ♪ ♪ >> neil: to the battleground blitz, former presid
